The number of fresh engineering graduates is 5,11,000 for the year 2006-07 . The southern states  hold a major share in producing engineers with over 40 % of the total lot. Maharashtra is at the top position with 97,090 engineers passing out. Karnataka is still a gold mine for the new breed with the highest average salary of Rs. 336,047.
